Andrew Hughes is a Ph.D. candidate in Urban Studies and Planning at the University of Sheffield, where his doctoral training is supported by the Economic and Social Research Council. His research considers how environmental change, particularly worsening urban flooding, is reshaping the livelihoods of displaced populations in Kampala, Uganda. His past research has focused on West African traders in Guangzhou, China, and on water and waste infrastructure in Lilongwe, Malawi. Prior to working in research, he was a caseworker for refugee aid organisations in the UK.
