
John Boon

Landscape architect John Boon (Hoorn, 1969) first obtained a bachelor’s degree at Larenstein in Boskoop. He then completed his master’s degree at the Academy of Architecture in Amsterdam. His graduation work there was nominated for the Archiprix. Since 2005 John works at Arcadis where he is head of the landscape architecture and urban design team. From 2007 to 2012 he was chief designer of the World Horticultural Expo Floriade 2012 in Venlo. This project was the start of a more international career with projects in Belgium, Turkey, Dubai, China, Peru, France, and Colombia. In addition to his work at Arcadis, John is a member of the Executive Committee of IFLA Europe, and a member of the Supervisory Board of USH, a foundation that operates three cemeteries in Hilversum, all of which are national monuments. In recent years, John has been committed to making our cities healthier. The layout of the physical space can make an important contribution to health. He has now built up a broad network of researchers/scientists, policy makers and professionals who are involved in making cities healthier. He is also the initiator and author of the Arcadis Healthy City Index.
