Born and raised on a farm, Kelly’s understanding of community food security incorporates a deep understanding of farmer livelihood (in)security, but also environmental and political issues, social justice, and inequality. These topics were woven together for her master’s degree investigating food insecurity in low-income communities in Canada. Kelly is the project coordinator for Feeding 9 Billion, where she is given the opportunity to work with passionate undergraduate students and incredible entrepreneurs at the University of Guelph and around the world. In addition to this work, she is passionately concerned about food waste. As a research assistant on the Guelph Food Waste Research Project, she is able to channel her passions in this field academically, but also combines this with community-based outreach, education, and campaigns.
